Parliamentary causes of the English civil war?
Charles I dissolved the English Parliament in 1629 and ruled England without Parliament for a decade, this was called the 'Eleven Years' Tyranny'. Charles I then re-opened Parliament to impose taxes needed to pay for an army. This army was needed to put down a religious rebellion in Scotland, Parliament refused to impose these taxes unless the King gave them more powers. Unwilling to concede to his Parliament's demands, Charles I then raised an army himself and tried to impose his taxes without Parliament's consent - this was considered an illegal act against his own people and Parliament declared war on their King.
